Tommy Spaulding

So I had to go to this Leadership in Business lecture today for TEC and was blown away by this dude Tommy Spaulding... dude has gone on to make millions of dollars for various companies and is cool as hell... he even came up to me, shook my hand and listened to some of the music I had on my phone... COOL ASS DUDE...

He's a dyslexic who's struggled with school all of his life... graduated from high school with a 1.9 GPA, went and saw the world for a year, used some connections to get into East Carolina, graduated with a 2.0, then went on to get an MBA on a FULL SCHOLARSHIP which led to a million different avenues... this dude had the heart of a motivational speaker but you could tell he's like that all the time...

His lecture was all about how he was just a general good guy to people and those people, in some form or another, would end up blessing him... and that's the type of mindset he takes with him into the business arena... if you put people first instead of worrying about the money aspect, the money's gonna come anyway...

His craziest story was about how he was over in Japan... he met this lady who ran the bread spot in his village... he talked to her everyday and they ended up becoming friends... she was an older lady and she wanted to learn English, so he taught her English and she taught him Japanese... so after a while, he went over to her house and met her family... but he started to notice that everytime he would go over to the crib, her husband would leave the room... so he asked her what he did that offended him and she was like "well he doesn't like Americans because his family was killed when the U.S. dropped the atom bomb on Hiroshima and he became an orphan..." so at that point, most people would have probably been like 'well, fuck it... that's a lost cause... he's just gonna have to hate me because there's nothing that can really be done about that...' but Tommy took upon himself to change the situation and went over to this dude's house everyday and would help him shovel the snow from his driveway in the mornings... the Japanese cat never ever said anything to him but he didn't kick him off the property or anything either... wouldn't even acknowledge him... when it got warmer, he would help him collect the rice from the fields and the Japanese dude finally started to come around... when Tommy left Japan, the dude came up to him and gave him a hug and was like "You're my American son..."

That shit was crazy, B... dude's touched a lot of people just by being him... I always thought that's the way I'd be... I mean, I hear it all the time that I'm a good dude and that I touch a lot of people's lives but I don't feel like I do anything that crazy... and usually when I do, it ends up coming to bite me in the ass (but that's a whole other blog...)

He talked for close to 90 minutes but I could've listened to him for another 90 minutes... some of his stories were just amazing, B...

Google this dude!!!!

Ya'll be easy...
